I am at a loss of things to talk about in this post. I’m going to see Depeche Mode tomorrow night, so I’ll leave you with a performance of my favorite DM song.
I actually want this to be the song that I walk down the aisle to next April. Jason says that it’s the words that make it romantic and if someone just plays the music that will get lost, but I still like the idea. It could be the first dance song, but I have another one in mind – Falling Slowly from the movie Once.

Well, no art was purchased, but we did have a nice time at the Summer Shade Fest. We walked around and looked at the booths. I managed to find a massage booth that charged $1 a minute for a chair massage so I had a five minute massage. I have this spot in my left shoulder/upper back that is always sore. I’m assuming it’s from using a mouse all day. So, spending $5 to have someone try to work the knot out was well worth it. After we saw all the booths, we sat down on the grass next to one of the stages and listened to some music and talked for a while.
This was probably the most fun part of the festival for me. Jason almost never has a weekend day off, so it was really nice to be able to just spend time together. After about 2-3 hours, we decided to go home and regroup. And by regroup, I mean take a nap. I slept for about an hour and a half.
We wanted to go out to dinner and I remembered Angie’s recent post about eating at La Fonda and decided that would be just perfect for dinner. Their salsa is wonderful. I don’t know why, but I just love it. Although this batch did seem a tad too watery.
For my entree, I got some sort of chicken salad. I used salsa as the salad dressing.
I pretty much killed it.
After dinner, we met up with my friend Erin at a new bar in midtown called Ri-Ra. The bars in midtown are not really my scene. I much prefer more of a dive bar but to my surprise, I actually enjoyed Ri-Ra. We were there for about an hour or so and some of Erin’s friends wanted to go across the street to Cosmo-Lava. We went but I didn’t really enjoy myself. It’s more of a club and really not my thing.
Today is dark and rainy. I want to give the house a good cleaning. Cleaning is hard for me. By nature, I’m a messy person and so is Jason. But at the same time, I get very frustrated about how messy my house gets. If a friend were to drop by unexpectedly, I’d probably be a bit embarrassed at the state of our house. I’ll clean and it’ll get messy, I’ll get frustrated and mad and clean again and it’s a never-ending cycle. How do we just keep the house clean to begin with?
On Wednesday, my friend Jamie and I decided that we would run the Adams Realty 5K which was part of the Grant Park Summer Shade Festival. He signed up online on Thursday. I forgot to and when I remembered, yesterday, online registration was closed. It was really for the best, because the line for the walk-up registration was much shorter than if you’d pre-registered. Ha, slackers do win sometimes.
Although I was pleased with the ease of registration, I was not amused when they handed you a t-shirt right then and there. What am I supposed to do with a t-shirt at the beginning of the race? My car was parked too far to walk back and put it inside. Fortunately, two of our friends lived close enough that we were able to walk to their house and throw the shirts on their porch. But seriously, they couldn’t give the t-shirts out at the end?
The actual run was pretty uneventful. It was through some neighborhoods that had some nice houses so the scenery was pretty good. It was on the hilly side, but races in Atlanta almost always are. I ran with my friends Jamie and Lauren for the first two miles and then somehow fell behind them during the third. I finished about thirty seconds after them, at around 33 minutes. Not fast, but I’m okay with it.
After the race, we walked back to our cars and walked through the park where there were artists setting up their booths for the festival. I love this sort of thing. I have several pieces of art that I’ve bought from various festivals. We’re going back later on, so I might come home with another piece to add to the collection.

At a venue that sells food catered from Whole Foods. This was honestly one of the most fun concerts that I’ve ever been to. I’m not sure why; there was just a great energy.
I managed to bring the correct shoes to work today, so I did a 6 x 400 training run after work at the gym. I’m not exactly in racing shape the moment but my friend Jamie and I made a last minute decision to do a 5K on Saturday morning. I really, really, really would like to run a sub 30 5K. I’m always so close, but never can quite do it. Jamie runs a little bit faster than I do so I’m sort of hoping that I can keep up a slightly faster pace by running with him.
For dinner tonight, Jason threw together something. It was whole wheat tortellini in a marinara sauce with a crumbled up Dr. Praeger’s veggie burger to make a sorta meat sauce. I think I’m rubbing off on him because this is something that I totally would come up with myself. I liked it; he didn’t.
Oh and check this out: I’m famous, part two! I didn’t even know they were going to put this on their website. I think it’s hysterical and pretty ironic that they chose a picture of me drinking from a dog bowl filled with alcohol to highlight some of the healthy living bloggers that use their product! Maybe we can all pretend that I’m drinking wheatgrass juice or something.
Speaking of chia, I made a smoothie with it yesterday but did it a little differently. Instead of making a chia gel and putting that in the blender, I just put the seeds straight in. Then after everything was blended together, I chilled the smoothie in the fridge for about ten minutes. It definitely thickened up a lot and the smoothie sort of had a gritty texture to it. It was enjoyable though and had some staying power. I’m not a huge smoothie person, because I like the feeling of chewing my food, but I am definitely enjoying putting this chia seeds in my smoothies.
So, this was supposed to be my last week of boot camp. I emailed Mike and told him that I was having trouble training for this race and making it to class so I wanted to take a break. Problem is, I neglected to notice that I have to give a 30-day notice. My membership (if you will) is on auto-pay which is cheaper. I guess that’s precisely why! Because now I have to go, or pay for at least, September as well.
So, off to boot camp I went this morning. It was okay. I’ve been doing this for long enough that I know the workouts and the new instructor definitely did the workout wrong. It made it easier, actually, so I wasn’t complaining!
I had intended to go to the gym after work since boot camp wasn’t very running intensive today. I packed my gym bag and took it to my office. I shut my office door at 5 and changed into my gym clothes and guess what I found? Two left shoes! D’oh! My co-workers found it quite amusing.
I could have just gone home, got the correct shoes and gone to the gym but my little doggie friend doesn’t make that very easy. He is very insistent on taking a walk as soon as I get home. So I took him on a 45 minute walk and by the time I got home, I lost all motivation for running. I can’t go tomorrow either because we’re going to see the Flaming Lips (woo!). So I guess I’ll have to run on Thursday which is normally my rest day.
