Wedding Day

I know it’s not traditional, but Jason went back to my mom’s house with me the night before the wedding. We aren’t much for tradition and the idea of not seeing each other beforehand seemed a bit silly. In the morning, we dropped Jason off at his brother’s hotel and my mom, grandma and I got our hair and makeup done at a salon (which I’ve forgotten the name of.) They put my veil in my hair and my grandma got a huge kick out of me walking down the dc streets in jeans and a big veil. We stopped at a place called Chopt for a salad. Why don’t we have this place in Atlanta? I don’t know if it was because I was starving, or it was my wedding day or what, but it was the best salad.

My bridesmaids, Eva and Emma came to the bridal suite and helped me into my dress. At that point, the photographers had also arrived. They instructed me to hide while Jason came into the room. It was a bit awkward walking up to Jason and having these two photographers taking all of these pictures of us. Our hotel was only like two blocks from the White House so we decided to walk over there and take more pictures. It was pretty hot out, so the bridesmaids came too, carrying bottles of water. We were out there for about half an hour. It was pretty fun and I can’t wait to see how the pictures turn out. At one point, a woman and her little girl came up to us. The woman explained that she told her daughter that I was a princess and she wanted to say hi. So cute.

We got back, took some more pictures and before we knew it, it was nearly 6 and the ceremony was beginning. Our ceremony was non-religious but it had some Jewish traditions. Both Jason’s parents walked him down the aisle and stood under the chuppah with him as did mine. My very good friend Jamie read two poems. The Rilke one that I posted earlier and another one called A Marriage, by Michael Blumenthal. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Jason broke a glass (on purpose, with his foot), which is another Jewish tradition.

The reception was a lot of fun. We had the band learn our first dance song, Somebody by Depeche Mode, and were happy with how it came out. The rest of the reception is kind of a blur, so I’ll just leave you with some pictures. It was really the best night of my life!

First dance:

Cake, complete with Murphy cake topper. THey didn’t position him right at first, he wasn’t supposed to be staring at Jason’s butt!

The Horah

Sunday morning was rough. I kind of felt like I was hit by a bus. I think it was primarily exhaustion though. I don’t think I even drank that much the night before. Our flight wasn’t until 7pm, so we basically just napped all afternoon. The flight back to Atlanta sucked. We were stuck on the runway for an hour and a half before take-off and then there was a crying baby in the row in front of us. We didn’t get to our house until after 11.

Everyone looked at me like I was crazy when I showed up at work yesterday at 9am. I didn’t have any more vacation days and didn’t want to take an unpaid one. At least that’s what I told myself before the wedding. I lasted three hours before I had to go home. I was just so tired and felt completely awful – no better than Sunday. I think I slept pretty much all afternoon. I had to force myself to wake up at 6 so I’d be able to sleep at night.

I feel so much better today. I honestly thought I was getting sick, but I think it was just pure exhaustion. I finally went and worked out after a week of no exercise. Oh, and Murphy got a very short haircut for the summer. Maybe a little too short. He looks like a totally different dog. He’s two-toned now.

The wedding: a preview

No time to blog, must get married

But I wanted to leave you with one of the poems that is being read at our ceremony.

Understand, I’ll slip quietly
away from the noisy crowd
when I see the pale
stars rising, blooming, over the oaks.

I’ll pursue solitary pathways
through the pale twilit meadows,
with only this one dream:
You come too.

Rainer Maria Rilke

See you when I’m a Mrs.

WTF, Whole Foods?

Yes, I’m getting married tomorrow and you know what I keep thinking about? Kombucha. My mom and I had to go to the bridal shop yesterday to try on my dress for the final time. The seamstress was supposed to hem it the last time. It was about a half inch too long. When I tried it on again, it was still a half inch too long. My mom thinks that the woman didn’t hem it, but she bustled it in the hopes that I wouldn’t notice. We noticed. So, while she was fixing it (and trying to get out a STAIN!), we walked over to Whole Foods to get a drink. I really wanted a Kombucha but they were nowhere to be found. Instead, I got some Steaz Energy Drink that was disgusting. I took three sips and spit it out. I went to the customer service desk and asked about the Kombucha or lack there of. According to the Whole Foods woman, there was a government recall and they had to take it off the shelves.

Not so. According to google, Whole Foods voluntarily recalled GT Kombucha (or whatever it’s called – the Synergy one) because of it’s freaking “may contain up to .05% alcohol” label. WTF? They can sell non-alcoholic beer that contains up to .05% alcohol. Hell, they can sell real beer. So, why not kombucha? I guess you do have to show ID for real beer, but real beer has real alcohol.

I am not pleased, Whole Foods. At least it isn’t a government recall like they told me and I’m hoping that they still sell it at Kroger (even though they only have like three flavors) and at my local health food store – return to Eden.

Backing up a bit, yes, there was a stain on my dress. I don’t know how it got there but we got into it with the bridal shop. Not so much because of the stain, which really isn’t noticeable to anyone else, but because first the seamstress tried to blame the floors in the dressing area! Umm, if your floors are dirty and it gets the dress dirty, that’s the store’s fault! Then they tried to say that sometimes brides get make-up on the dress. I don’t even really wear make-up! I’m not going to get upset about it. I’m more upset about the kombucha!

4 days until my wedding! My mind has been all over the place so forgive me if this post is completely random! Actually, I think I’ll just do a bullet point list of what’s been going on lately.

• I’ve been lifting heavier weights and feel like I’ve gotten stronger. I used to do bicep curls with 8 lb weights and now I am doing them with 12.5s. I also managed to squeak out 3×8 overhead tricep extensions with a 25 lb weight. It was very heavy and I might have compromised my form a bit though. I am quite sore from yesterdays lifting session which is a good thing.

Willy’s > Moe’s.

• I’ve been having trouble sleeping. If you know me, you know this is not normal. My friends don’t call me Sleepy Lee for nothing. On Sunday night, I couldn’t fall asleep until nearly 2am. Last night, I fell asleep at the normal time, but awoke at like 3:30 when Murphy barked and couldn’t fall back asleep until like 5:30. It’s not pre-wedding jitters, more like my mind is going a mile a minute thinking of last minute things that we still have to do.

• I made tropical peanut butter barley for breakfast yesterday. It was good. Barley is my new favorite grain, I think.

1/3 cup barley cooked in 2/3 cup water. Mixed with peanut butter, plain chobani, pineapple and coconut and sweetened with stevia. Basically the same thing as the carrot cake oats but without the carrots and with peanut butter. Oh and without the oats.

• We’re leaving for DC tomorrow night.

Our wedding weekend looks like this:

Thursday – dress fitting, bbq with Jason’s parents, maybe drinks with some friends after. There was a snafu with the dress fitting time but I don’t feel like getting into it.
Friday – rehearsal, rehearsal dinner
Saturday – wedding!!
Sunday – brunch at hotel, go back to ATL
Monday – go to work

Yes, I’m going to work on Monday. I can’t decide if it’s a good idea or not. Many people have told me that I should take the day off so I can sort of unwind and regroup, but I think I have like one vacation day left (not counting the ones I’m taking for our honeymoon), so I don’t know if I want to use it.

• The work day passed surprisingly fast. Maybe because I did wedding stuff all day? I am going to be happy when I don’t have to do wedding stuff!

• Have you been to The Gap recently? The clothes all look like something from Little House on the Prairie. What’s up with that.

• I’m thinking about bringing my computer to DC. I honestly enjoy blogging and want to get my thoughts about the weekend on paper (or screen, rather) while they are fresh in my mind. So you might see some wedding recaps, it just depends on what the weekend looks like.

Also, sorry for the lack of commenting on your blogs lately. You’ll forgive me, right?
