The Liebster Award

I know it’s Christmas Eve and not that many people are sitting around reading blogs, but I thought I’d post anyway.  Amanda from Pickles & Honey nominated me for the Liebster Award.  Thanks Amanda!

Here’s how it works:

1.  Write 11 random facts about yourself.
2.  Answer 11 questions given by the blogger who nominated you.
3.  Create 11 new questions.
4.  Nominate 11 bloggers.
5.  Thank the blogger who nominated you.

Okay, I’m taking the lazy way out and not giving you 11 random facts about myself.  I’m all kinds of random anyway.  Here are Amanda’s questions:

1.  Do you prefer the city or the suburbs?

Despite growing up and currently living in the suburbs, I really think I’m a city girl.  Every time I visit a new city, I pretty much want to move there and I cannot stand how Atlanta is really just a big suburb.  It’s hard to explain if you don’t live here, I guess, but it’s really, really spread out and not walkable at all.  Plus, I don’t live in the city of Atlanta anyway.

See that city in the background?  I could totally live there.  That was Philadelphia, by the way.

2.  What book are you currently reading?

I just finished Gone Girl.  I really liked it but wasn’t happy with the ending at all.

3.  Cardio or strength training?

I do both, but I prefer cardio.

4.   What place would you most like to visit?

I went to college in Burlington, Vermont and haven’t been back since I graduated and I would really like to.  Other US cities that I’d like to visit include San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and the state of Colorado in general.  And then there’s the rest of the world too, obviously.  Don’t make me choose.

5.  Favorite kind of cookie?

I like a nice, warm chocolate chip cookie.

6.  If money didn’t matter, how would you spend your days?

I can be really, really lazy so if I didn’t have to work, I’d probably take lots of naps.  I know I’m supposed to say volunteering or something, but really, napping.

7.  Do you prefer a more social setting or an intimate get-together?

I am actually pretty shy in real life, but I’m not introverted if that makes sense.  I’m like a shy extrovert.  I really like being around people and kind of hate being alone.  But I’m quiet and sometimes don’t know what to say.  And you can forget small talk; I am awful at it.  So, it depends.  If the intimate setting is with my good friends, then I prefer that, but if it’s like a dinner with two other people that I don’t really know, I’d probably prefer the larger social setting because more people would talk to me and I wouldn’t have to make extended small talk.

8.  Coffee, tea or both?

Coffee, but I sometimes drink tea at work when I’m cold or bored.

9.  What’s one of your goals for 2013?

I’d like to dress better.  This is a constant goal for me and one that I’ve never been very good at.  The problem is that I tend to shop at places like Target and Old Navy and the clothes I buy don’t always fit well.

10.  Do you have a favorite blog post that you’ve written?

I like my marathon post. Unlike a lot of other bloggers, running a marathon kind of sucked for me.  I did it once and had a bad experience and will probably never do it again (though, never say never, I guess).  I’m not sure why writing about a crappy race would be my favorite post, but I guess I just feel like it’s a very un-sugar coated view of what running 26.2 miles can be like.

11.  What’s the best part of a typical day for you?

I actually wake up about 20 minutes earlier than I need to each morning, so I can make a hot breakfast (usually eggs) and drink a cup of coffee and catch up on email, facebook, blogs etc.  I guess the fact that checking my email is the best part of the day might say something about my wee internet addiction, but whatever.  Candy Finnegan might show up at my house soon, I’m aware.  (You know who that is, right?)

Okay, so since it’s Christmas Eve and you’re probably doing something cooler than me and not reading this (because of, you know, the Jewish thing, I don’t always go somewhere for Christmas, though sometimes I do.), I’m going to do the lazy thing and not nominate anyone.  See question 6.  But if you’d like, pick one of Amanda’s questions and answer it in the comments.

Happy Holidays!

Breakfast, lunch and dinner

I’ve been seeing this little survey around and it’s perfect for tonight when I don’t have much else to say.  You might not even see this post because my blog keeps getting suspended for high CPU usage.  Does anyone else ever have this problem?  I think that a spider is crawling the site and causing the problem.  I’m not even sure what that means.

Anyway.  Food.

1.  What was your favorite cereal as a child?

I honestly don’t know the answer to this.  I wasn’t allowed to have all the sugary cereals so of course, that’s what I wanted.  I think, however, I was allowed to have Frosted Mini-Wheats, so we’ll go with those.

2.  Coffee or Tea?  With milk or without?

Coffee with soy creamer, please.

I do drink tea at work though, usually without milk.

3.  What’s the one food you eat most at breakfast?

Well, it used to be eggs but recently I found out that my cholesterol is 207, which is in the borderline high category. I’m not sure if eggs are contributing to that or not, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to be a little less egg-happy.

Egg sandwich

1.  If you had to choose between and peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a grilled cheese sandwich, which would you choose?

They are both really good and it’s a hard decision.  Ultimately, I think I’d go with PB&J.  Honestly though, I rarely eat sandwiches for lunch.  I usually eat leftovers or an Amy’s Tofu Scramble which my boss got me hooked on and is very delicious.

2. You can only put 4 ingredients in your salad (besides the greens), which do you choose?  Additionally, which greens and which dressing.

Yesterday’s lunch was spinach with salmon, dried cherries and walnuts dressed with lite balsamic.  Since I get one more topping, I’d probably go with avocado.  I also really like ranch dressing, unless it tastes too much like mayo and then I hate it.

3.  One food you can’t live without at lunch?

I don’t tend to eat the same things day after day, so I can’t really think of anything.  Water to wash it down?

1. It’s the end of the day and you’re tired, hungry and your fridge is empty.  If fast food (from a chain) is your only option, where do you go and what do you order?

Really, I never eat fast food for dinner.  Never.  That’s not to say that all my meals are healthy.  My version of fast food is usually going to Kroger and picking up a frozen pizza.

Pizza salad

2.  TV/Computer on our off while you are eating.

I am awful about this, but I am almost ALWAYS at my computer while I eat.  The TV is usually off though.

3.  The one food you eat most often at dinner?

Refried beans, I just can’t quit you.

Refried beans

1.  Cheesecake or apple pie.

Umm, neither?  Ice cream.

2.  Flan or tiramisu?

See answer above.

3.  Ice cream in a cup or cone?

There we go!  Cup please.

And I’m sure my blog is about to get suspended again before you even read this.  Don’t worry, Ill get it back.

Leaving the Annoying Day Behind

So I wrote this whole thing about how today was so annoying – my air conditioner in my car stopped working, my allergies were killing me, I was pissed off about something at work, I forgot my socks when I went to the gym, etc.  But then I read what I wrote and realized that I sounded kind of like a whiny brat, so I erased it.  Although, I really did just write it anyway.  I’m sneaky like that.

Instead of whining, I am going to post pretty pictures.  Flowers are pretty.

Flowers with mimosas and berries are even prettier.  I promise I don’t usually drink at breakfast time.  This weekend was an exception to the rule.  I really wish I’d dusted that table before taking a picture.  Now you’re looking at the dust, aren’t you?

Flowers berries

You know what’s not pretty but still good?  Frozen fish from Trader Joe’s.  Seriously, it’s the only place that I’ve found where frozen fish actually tastes good when it is thawed and cooked.  Both Kroger and Publix’s frozen fish tastes horrible and I don’t even really like Whole Foods.  Trader Joe’s is where it’s at.  I dug out this cod from the depths of my freezer.

Cod broccoli

See, definitely not pretty, but it was good.  The sauce reminded me of Chinese food.  I baked it for about 12 minutes at 375, although the directions say you can pan fry it or microwave it too.  Microwaving fish?  Yeah, that’s not going to happen.

See, I feel better already.  The annoying day is behind me.  And to forget about it even further, here’s a fun survey that I stole from Laura:

Coke or Pepsi? Coke, specifically of the Diet variety although I don’t drink it much because it hurts my stomach.

Lemonade or Fruit Punch? I don’t really like either.  Actually, that’s not true.  I like some lemonades, but I am picky about it.  There’s this taste that’s often in lemonade that I don’t like.  It’s the same taste that I don’t like in sour mix.

Carmel Apple or Cotton Candy? Meh, neither really.

Butterfinger or Snickers? Snickers.

Pudding and Jell-O? Pudding, although I like Jell-O Pudding so I guess that’s both.

Turkey or Chicken? I don’t eat either, but when I did, I preferred chicken.

American or Provolone Cheese? I guess provolone.  I like very basic cheeses – cheddar, mozzarella, monterey jack.  Although I do like goat and feta, not blue.  I hate blue cheese.

Crackers or Cookies? Obviously cookies, although I like crackers too.

Pretzels or Chips? Chips, but I do like pretzels too.

Mexican food or Japanese food? Japanese.  I like Mexican food when I make Mexican style things at home (aka opening a can of refried beans and pouring salsa on it), but I often feel really sick from the cheese from Mexican food at a restaurant.

Chinese food or Italian food? Chinese.

Pie or Cake? Really, I prefer ice cream over both.

Ice Cream or Cookies? See above

Pasta or Pizza? Pizza

Soda or Juice? Does Vitamin Water Zero count? I only like the lemonade and orange flavors though.

Chocolate Bars or Chocolate Truffles? I don’t know how to explain this, but I don’t really like chocolate.  That’s not true – I like milk chocolate – but not chocolate flavored anything or anything very chocolately.  I’ll always choose vanilla ice cream over chocolate.  But I guess chocolate bars, provided they are milk and not dark chocolate.

Apples or Bananas? Such a hard choice. I guess bananas because sometimes apples are mealy and you don’t know they’re mealy until you take a bite and it’s a huge disappointment.  With a banana, you know.

Salad or Soup? Soup, although I like salad too.

Cauliflower or Broccoli? I like them both, but probably like broccoli more.

Onion Rings or French Fries? French fries for sure.  I don’t like onion rings.

Blizzard or McFlurry? I don’t think I’ve ever had a McFlurry.  I do like a Frosty, is that similar?

Fried or Poached Eggs? Fried

Crepes or Pancakes? Pancakes

Hashbrowns or Roasted Potatoes? Oooh, tough choice.   I’ll go with roasted potatoes.

Oatmeal or Cereal? Cereal.  I know, I know.  Kick me out of the healthy blog world.
